i have mixed opinions. there were tons of similar games back then that were just quickly made trash usually infringing on someone elses copyright, made to trick kids into spending money on their games. The new crappy mobile games are the same as the old crappy ones.
But honestly old “good” mobile games were actually pretty bad compared to the current good ones. Nowadays you can get console quality games on mobile and tablets (especially on things like Apple Arcade). Back then, even the best mobile games beyond like Minecraft tended to be very simple and tried to get you to spend as much money as possible through in game microtransactions.

Reminder for eveyone to not even try these shitty modern mobile games. That's their strategy. The ads aren't meant to make you like the game, instead to mislead and trigger you into trying them. Once you try them, they are generally totally different from ads and some may turn away at that point, but they are also meant to addict you. Not everyone will stop playing because they got manipulated into it, and they keep playing and the evil mobile game company has succeeded.
Even if you think that you won't get addicted to these, remember that most drug addicts say the same. The games are becoming more and more like drugs. But unlike drugs, they are still legal (for some reason?) and can easily be marketed to kids who are easy to manipulate. So drugs for kids in short.
